Helicopters

Helicopters solve what the Metroplex road network cannot. Four to eight seats, cruise speeds from 113 to 155 knots, and transfers that measure in minutes where the drive is measured in hours.

Typical Aircraft

The Bell 407 is the most available six-seat single and the Bell Jet Ranger the entry-level single. The Bell Long Ranger adds a club-four rear cabin. For twins, the Agusta 109 is the fastest at 155 knots with retractable gear, and the Sikorsky S-76 is the executive standard at up to eight seats. The Eurocopter range covers the refined middle of the market.

When Helicopters Fit the Dallas Trip

Airport transfers between Addison Airport (KADS), Love Field (KDAL), and Dallas addresses in Park Cities, Uptown, or the CBD. Connections from Metroplex corporate campuses to a departing aircraft. Point-to-point corporate travel within the DFW area where the helicopter landing site is already permitted. Where a helicopter is permitted to land is set by the site, not by us — the operator confirms approval for each end of the trip before it is booked.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates; reports may be provided on request.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.

Dallas-Specific Patterns We Plan Around

Spring is the scheduling variable that drives most Dallas charter discussions. The DFW area averages 46.5 thunderstorm days per year, with May and June the most active months. Morning departures offer the clearest window; afternoon convective build-up from late April through September is what we plan around. Winter weather is infrequent but operationally significant when it arrives. A planned December or January departure should include a contingency discussion as a standard part of the booking. Summer heat adds a density altitude factor for full-payload departures. Your operator calculates performance numbers for every departure before the trip is confirmed.

AT&T Stadium in Arlington generates concentrated helicopter demand on Cowboys game days. NFL stadium TFRs apply from one hour before kickoff to one hour after, covering a 3-nautical-mile radius around the stadium. We route around the TFR window rather than through it, and confirm airspace clearance before the aircraft takes off when timing is near the window.
