Heavy jets are what Dallas groups move to when the cabin needs to function as a workspace or a living space for the duration of the trip. Eight to nineteen seats, 2,800 to 4,220 nautical miles, and wide stand-up cabins with separate zones on most configurations.
Typical Aircraft
The Bombardier Challenger family runs from the 600 and 601 through the 604 and 605; the 604 is among the most chartered heavy jets in the market. The Dassault Falcon 2000 and the three-engine Falcon 900 add short-field performance and speed. The Gulfstream II, III, and IV carry the longest range in the category. The Embraer Legacy 600 carries the most passengers and the most luggage.
When Heavy Jets Fit the Dallas Trip
Dallas to New York, Miami, and northern South America with a working payload. Energy sector travel to the Gulf states, London, and other international destinations. Sports team travel out of DFW is almost always this size or larger — the Cowboys, Stars, Mavericks, and Rangers all move on heavy jets or airliners for away schedules.
Vetting Behind Every Trip
Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:
- FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
- Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates; reports may be provided on request.
- Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
- Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.
Dallas-Specific Patterns We Plan Around
Spring is the scheduling variable that drives most Dallas charter discussions. The DFW area averages 46.5 thunderstorm days per year, with May and June the most active months. Morning departures offer the clearest window; afternoon convective build-up from late April through September is what we plan around. Winter weather is infrequent but operationally significant when it arrives. A planned December or January departure should include a contingency discussion as a standard part of the booking. Summer heat adds a density altitude factor for full-payload departures. Your operator calculates performance numbers for every departure before the trip is confirmed.
A fully loaded heavy jet on an international route requires KDFW for runway performance. KADS and Love Field handle heavy jets at normal weights without issue. The distinction is a maximum-gross departure on a long international leg, where only the 13,000-plus-foot runways at KDFW resolve the calculation cleanly.
