Midsize Jets

Midsize jets are where Dallas trips stop being regional hops and start being considered journeys. Six to ten seats, 1,810 to 2,950 nautical miles, stand-up cabins, and enclosed lavatories throughout. This is the standard for corporate runs between Dallas and the East Coast.

Typical Aircraft

The Cessna Citation Excel and XLS is the most chartered midsize jet in the world and the most available here. The Hawker 750, 850XP, and 900XP carry the flat-floor cabin the line is known for. The Citation III and VII bring speed at a lower cost. The Learjet 55 and 60 carry up to ten. The Gulfstream G150 extends the category’s range envelope.

When Midsize Jets Fit the Dallas Trip

Dallas to New York, Chicago, Atlanta, and Miami nonstop with a working payload. The energy sector runs Dallas to Houston on light jets; it runs Dallas to Washington DC, New York, and major finance destinations on midsize aircraft. Intra-Texas midsize trips are uncommon unless the group size or schedule demands it.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.

Dallas-Specific Patterns We Plan Around

Spring is the scheduling variable that drives most Dallas charter discussions. The DFW area averages 46.5 thunderstorm days per year, with May and June the most active months. Morning departures offer the clearest window; afternoon convective build-up from late April through September is what we plan around. Winter weather is infrequent but operationally significant when it arrives. A planned December or January departure should include a contingency discussion as a standard part of the booking. Summer heat adds a density altitude factor for full-payload departures. Your operator calculates performance numbers for every departure before the trip is confirmed.

Midsize jets are the first category where a summer full-payload departure from KADS needs specific performance attention. At 95-plus degrees Fahrenheit and 644 feet of elevation, performance margins narrow on a maximum-gross departure. Your operator runs those numbers before we quote — not at the ramp on the morning of the trip.
