Turboprops handle the regional work that jets do poorly in the Dallas market. Four to fourteen seats, 840 to 1,806 nautical miles, pressurized cabins on most, and the runway flexibility to serve fields a jet would route around and leave the client with an extra hour in the car.
Typical Aircraft
The Beechcraft King Air 200 is the most chartered turboprop in the world and the King Air 350 the largest, at up to eleven seats. The King Air 90 is the entry point. The Pilatus PC-12 reaches furthest at 1,803 nautical miles and handles awkward loads through a rear cargo door. The Piaggio Avanti cruises at light-jet speed. The Cessna Grand Caravan carries up to fourteen with a cargo pod underneath.
When Turboprops Fit the Dallas Trip
Dallas to smaller Texas cities and the Oklahoma corridor: Abilene, Amarillo, Wichita Falls, Midland, Lubbock. Intra-Texas corporate travel between Dallas and energy field sites. Trips that require a short-field option at the destination when jet-ready runways are not available.
Vetting Behind Every Trip
Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:
- FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
- Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates; reports may be provided on request.
- Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
- Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.
Dallas-Specific Patterns We Plan Around
Spring is the scheduling variable that drives most Dallas charter discussions. The DFW area averages 46.5 thunderstorm days per year, with May and June the most active months. Morning departures offer the clearest window; afternoon convective build-up from late April through September is what we plan around. Winter weather is infrequent but operationally significant when it arrives. A planned December or January departure should include a contingency discussion as a standard part of the booking. Summer heat adds a density altitude factor for full-payload departures. Your operator calculates performance numbers for every departure before the trip is confirmed.
The King Air 350 is the aircraft Dallas corporate clients most often compare to a light jet when the destination has a shorter runway or when the group is five or six people and the one-hour trip does not justify jet costs. Summer mornings at Addison Airport are manageable for a King Air. Afternoon convective build-up in May and June is the real planning factor, not the aircraft’s performance.
