Choosing a Category for a Dallas Trip
Under about ninety minutes, turboprops and entry-level jets cover most of the intrastate Texas market and the Oklahoma corridor without heavy-jet costs. Light and super light jets do most of the work between ninety minutes and three hours, which covers Dallas to New York, Chicago, and Denver. Past three hours the cabin matters as much as the hourly rate, which is where midsize and heavy aircraft earn their cost. Long range jets and VIP airliners serve international legs and large group travel respectively.
Group size sets the floor. Nine passengers rules out most light jets on baggage before it rules them out on seats. Once the group runs to more than nineteen passengers, the trip calls for a regional airliner or an airliner-size aircraft. Those trips no longer fall under the FAR Part 135 standards, and would possibly operate under FAR Part 121 or the foreign equivalent. Part 121 and equivalent generally carry stricter crew and operating requirements than both FAR Part 91 and FAR Part 135.
