Very Light Jets/Entry-Level Jets

Entry-level jets are the efficient option for Dallas short-haul trips. Four to seven seats, roughly 1,100 to 1,300 nautical miles of range, and cruise speeds in the 340 to 390 knot band. They are built for the Texas intrastate corridors and the short Southwest hops this market runs constantly.

Typical Aircraft

The Embraer Phenom 100 leads the category on cabin and baggage, the Cessna Citation CJ1 on all-round balance, and the Cessna Citation Mustang and Eclipse 500 on price. All four are certified for single-pilot operation, though charter operators commonly crew them with two.

When Entry-Level Jets Fit the Dallas Trip

Dallas to Houston at roughly one hour, Dallas to San Antonio, Austin, Oklahoma City, Wichita, and Amarillo. Los Cabos, Mexico is inside range as a cross-border leg. Push the trip past three hours or fill every seat with luggage, and the light jet category becomes the honest answer instead.

Vetting Behind Every Trip

Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:

  • FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
  • Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates; reports may be provided on request.
  • Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
  • Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.

Dallas-Specific Patterns We Plan Around

Spring is the scheduling variable that drives most Dallas charter discussions. The DFW area averages 46.5 thunderstorm days per year, with May and June the most active months. Morning departures offer the clearest window; afternoon convective build-up from late April through September is what we plan around. Winter weather is infrequent but operationally significant when it arrives. A planned December or January departure should include a contingency discussion as a standard part of the booking. Summer heat adds a density altitude factor for full-payload departures. Your operator calculates performance numbers for every departure before the trip is confirmed.

Entry-level jets work comfortably out of Addison Airport (KADS), where the 7,203-foot runway handles them without performance concerns at normal weights. Summer heat changes that calculation. At 95-plus degrees Fahrenheit and 644 feet of elevation at KADS, full-payload summer departures need performance planning from the operator before we confirm the trip.
